Vollering's victory will come as a delight to the Dutch crowd on the roadside in the Netherlands and the 26-year-old from Pijnacker believes the cold and wet conditions played to her advantage. “The last kilometer was extremely painful,” she says. "I didn't dare look back. I just gave it my all and hoped they were a little hesitant behind me. And that happened. I knew that with the wattages I pedalled I would not be grabbed again."
“It was so cold, but I normally like that. I think that also worked to my advantage. It was a tough game, but I enjoyed it. I've been that close twice already. Then I relied on my sprint," Vollering continued. "But now that
Lotte Kopecky was also in the front, I knew I could go for the attack. If that didn't work, we could play Lotte's card and turn it into a sprint."
