The star of stage 6, Sepp Kuss was given a momentary scare in the finale to stage 7 at the 2023 Vuelta a Espana, getting caught up in a crash with 10km to go.
"I am okay. The fall happened right in front of me, I couldn't move," Kuss explained in his post-stage interview, alleviating some fears after thrusting himself into Red Jersey contention a day earlier. “Actually, the final wasn't that dangerous, but it was really quiet all day. Then suddenly it is the final and then there was a lot of nervousness.”

There were a pair of late crashes, the second of which coming just after Kuss had regained contact with the peloton and Thymen Arensman being forced to abandon the race in the back of an ambulance.
In a positive for Kuss' Jumbo-Visma teammate, Jonas Vingegaard managed to steal himself two bonus seconds and pull some more time back on the likes of Remco Evenepoel. “That's a nice opener for tomorrow. This Vuelta will ultimately not be about seconds, but if you are in a good position, it will not take too much effort.”
