Bad luck for us as @romainbardet, @alberto_dainese, @seanf1ynn and @ChrisHamo_ were all involved in the crash in the finale. 😔 They're all back on their bikes and rolling to the finish. We hope everyone else involved is okay! 🙏🏻 #LaVuelta23
Opportunities for the sprinters are few and far between at the Vuelta a Espana. Alberto Dainese however has seen sprint chances even harder to come by after being caught up in a late crash.
“In the final there was a crash by an EF Education-EasyPost rider, I believe. I have yet to look back at the crash myself," the Team DSM-Firmenich fast-man recaps in his post-stage interview. "It happened right in front of us. I almost avoided it myself, but another bike flew into my front wheel.”
35-year-old TotalEnergies leadout man, Geoffrey Soupe was the surprising winner in the final sprint with Dainese rolling home in 160th position. “It was pretty scary. In my opinion, some riders took a little too much risk, but that's the sport," he explains of the incidents. "Let's hope everyone was okay in the crash."
