"I can start the Giro in the best conditions" - Damiano Caruso a contender for Giro GC after positive signs at Tour de Romandie

Damiano Caruso rode to second place at the 2021 Giro d'Italia. Achieving the same this May would be a difficult task, however the rise of form the veteran is showing puts him within contention for a spot in the fight for the podium in Italy.

“It was a good week for the team and especially for me. My goal was to find my good legs and I succeeded. Moreover, I take home a good result. A third place in Tour de Romandie means a lot," Caruso said after sealing his podium in Switzerland. He rode a consistent race where he put on a strong performance in the hilly time-trial, and then rode to third on the queen stage. In the rough weather and altitude, where he typically performs well, he found the right conditions to send out a signal that he is ready for the Giro.

Bahrain have several cards to play over the coming month, with Jack Haig aiming for a place in the Top5, and the duo of Santiago Buitrago and Gino Mäder also providing potential to aim for more. Caruso hasn't performed as he hoped at his home Giro di Sicilia where he could only manage a tenth place in the overall classification, but as the Giro draws near he's shown his best legs once again.

“Also because it comes a week before the start of the Giro. This gives me a lot of confidence. Now I will take a few days of rest to recover physically and mentally. After that I can start the Giro in the best conditions," he concluded. Bahrain - Victorious should announce it's lineup in the upcoming days.
