BORA - hansgrohe had a conservative ride in the final ascent to Sarnano-Sassoretto, with Jai Hindley covering moves and helping the pace stay constant in the final kilometers. A shortened climb and a strong headwind helped the German's ambitions to keep the race lead, and he arrived within the GC group in a surprising performance. However, as Primoz Roglic sprinted to victory, Kämna could not return to the podium due to the few bonus seconds that now separate the two.
"The wind influenced the race of course. Before the climb it was super hectic and then it became quite tactical. Attacks only made sense in the tail wind sections and everybody waited until the end. But the last two kilometers have been really tough," Kämna described. He now sits second in the overall classification ahead of the explosive stage to Osimo where the GC may be turned on it's head.
