Alongside Carthy's quest for the Red Jersey,
Marijn van den Berg will be the man for the flat stages as the 24-year-old sprinter tries to take a first Grand Tour stage win at his debut three-week stage race. "I am excited, also a bit nervous, of course. The longest races I have done were L’Avenir and the Baby Giro, and those were ten days each, so if you combine them, they don’t even add up to the same length as the Vuelta, so I have no idea what to expect, but I am super excited."
Supporting their leaders, will be the Swiss rider
Stefan Bissegger, Colombian climber
Diego Camargo, former Giro d'Italia stage winner Jonathan Klever Caicedo,
Julius van den Berg and Grand Tour debutants
Andrea Piccolo and
Sean Quinn.
