The teams, including a few World Tour outfits, were ready to begin the Adriatica Ionica Race tomorrow but to their surprise they have been told in recent hours that, only hours away from it's start, the Italian race has been cancelled.
The three-day event gave opportunity for the Italian peloton to get a few race days in, in a race that has gained relevance over the past few years. Tuttobiciweb reports that mistakes were made from the side of the race organizers.
What this means exactly is said to be problems with traffic technical guidance and the absence of an UCI jury. There were no TV rights agreed on for the race and it is possible that there was an internal clash regarding the UCI and the Italian Cycling Federation. Moreno Argentin, race director, confirmed now with hours to go that the rumour of a possible cancellation had been confirmed.
