"He has succeeded in getting into incredible shape" - Tadej Pogacar's mother praises the big rival Jonas Vingegaard

Tadej Pogacar's mother, Marjeta, has enormous respect for how Jonas Vingegaard has risen from lying in the ditch in the Basque Country to riding on the level that nearly rivals the Slovenian himself at this year's Tour de France. However the yellow jersey is currently in the hands of Pogacar, who now holds a nearly two-minute lead.

"Jonas is really strong - and I want to say chapeau to him considering how injured he was three months ago. He has succeeded in getting into incredible shape," says Marjeta to BT.

"I'm very happy that my son is in yellow now, because it makes it so easy to see him. But I don't know if my son will win. I hope so. That is my son. I always hope for the best for my children - for all of them," she says.

"I'm very nervous when I follow along. And especially when it goes downhill," admits Marjeta Pogacar and reveals that she actually prefers to avoid seeing the descents. "It's much better when we stand out on the roads ourselves and watch the race, because then we don't see the downhills. Then we only see them when they're over, and it's much easier for us parents."
