Tour de France stage 14 GC Update: Tadej Pogacar stretches clear of Jonas Vingegaard in fight for Maillot Jaune

Stage 14 of the 2024 Tour de France promised a lot of fighting for the general classification, even decisive depending on the outcome of the stage at the finish. The finish in the Pyrenees pointed directly to the two favourites for victory, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard.

Pogacar did not fail on this occasion. The Slovenian did not hesitate for a second, and 4.3 km from the finish, on the climb to the Pla d'Adet, he attacked from the group of favourites, and Vingegaard could not keep up with him. As a result, the wearer of the Maillot Jaune has 39 seconds more in the overall, and the Team Visma | Lease a Bike star is now around 2 minutes away from his nearest rival.

Although Vingegaard overtakes Remco Evenepoel in the standings, the mental blow to the Dane is great. In addition, Evenepoel has given the surprise and has silenced the mouths of all his critics, who believed that he would not be able to perform in the high mountains. The Soudal - Quick-Step leader minimized the damage and, although he is now 3rd, he is still almost 4 minutes ahead of Joao Almeida in 4th and is not too far from the yellow jersey, at 2 minutes and 22 seconds.

As for Carlos Rodriguez, the Spaniard was the best of the rest, finishing 4th almost on a par with Evenepoel and as such, remains 5th overall. His compatriot, Mikel Landa, after an extraordinary job for Evenepoel, remains 6th after finishing 11th. Adam Yates is 7th, Giulio Ciccone 8th, Derek Gee 9th and Matteo Jorgenson closes the Top 10.
