Fabio Jakobsen is a pure sprinter and one of the riders who was expected to suffer the most through the high mountains. The two days that were set to be the hardest for the Dutchman however are behind, as he made it to the finish line at the Alpe d'Huez today safely and inside the time limit.
“It’s the hardest day I have done on the bike, 4600 vertical meters and so many tough ascents. I suffered a lot, but the energy coming from the crowds, truly amazing from start to finish, and my teammates helped me throughout the stage, and now I’m happy to continue my first Tour de France," Jakobsen said in a post-race interview.
The Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team leader had the support of his teammates on this rough day with climbing from start to finish and arrived at the finish 40:03 minutes behind Tom Pidcock.
Tomorrow won't be an ideal day, however it provides an opportunity for the sprinters to be back in charge and fighting for the win in Saint-Étienne.
