The second stage of the
Baloise Ladies Tour concluded on Thursday.
Lorena Wiebes secured the stage victory while Mylène de Zoete finished second, and Amber van der Hulst secured the third position.
A few kilometers from the start, De Groot launched an attack and stayed in the lead for 30km before the peloton caught her. Scandolara gained a one-minute, but soon the peloton counterattacked her. Wiebes launched a powerful sprint in the final 200 meters and crossed the finish line ahead of everyone.
“The team did a really good job. We controlled the race from the beginning onwards,” said Wiebes. She continues, “There was a break of three but we caught them in the last lap and kept the pace high. Pfeiffer did a massive job in the lead-out, and I didn’t have to sprint for too long. It’s again a really good team effort, and we’re looking forward to tomorrow and the harder stage,” concluded Wiebes. Her stage victory has pushed her to the top position in GC, 1 second ahead of first stage winner Ellen van Dijk.
