Cycling and Tennis meet, as French rider Guillaume Martin has admitted in a recent interview to have a problem with the admission of Rafael Nadal, one of Tennis' biggest stars, having taken painkiller injections to treat a foot injury.
"What Nadal did would have been impossible on the bike, and I find that normal. If we are sick or injured, we don't race, we don't compete, that seems like common sense to me," Martin told L'Équipe. Nadal has won the recent Roland-Garros tournament which has sent him to a record-breaking 22nd win at a Grand Slam.
He has told reporters that "better you don’t know" the total number of injections he took during the tournament to numb the pain on his left foot. He went on to win the tournament beating Casper Ruud in the final match.
Martin has said in his interview that this kind of treatment would not be allowed in cycling and showcases the differences between sports - and showcases the rigurous control that cycling goes over regarding healing products.
