Greg Van Avermaet will wave goodbye to his cycling career in Dendermonde on Sunday 15 October. A cycling and football festival will be organized that day in the hometown of 2016 Olympic cycling champion.
There are several bike rides (25 kilometers and 75 kilometers) on the training roads of Van Avermaet, in which teammates and old acquaintances of Gouden Greg also participate. There is also a fan village on the Groene Dender. Later in the afternoon there is a mini-football tournament with Van Avermaet, in which several football stars also participate. The evening will be concluded with a few performances on the Grote Markt.
"My fans have supported me through thick and thin throughout my career," Van Avermaet responds. "That's why I want to give something back to all supporters and my retirement as a professional cyclist seemed like the ideal opportunity to thank them for the support over the past few years. It is also nice to have the teammates from the past and now there for the last time and to reminisce."
Participation in the fan rides can be ordered via www.goodbyegreg.be. Entrance to the fan village on the Groene Dender and the concert on the Grote Markt in Dendermonde are free.
