Giulio Ciccone: "We missed a very good opportunity and we are disappointed"

Trek - Segafredo had Giulio Ciccone and Bauke Mollema set up as pre-race favourites today at the Trofeo Laigueglia but missed the opportunity to fight for the win after they were caught out in a split.

"We missed a very good opportunity and we are disappointed. We were in the ideal condition to make the race from start to end and go for the wwin. We had the legs, but we got caught out in a key moment of the race," Ciccone said after finishing the Trofeo Laigueglia in eighth place.

Trek-Segafredo were caught out in a split that came to life just over 60 kilometers to go and were on the backfoot ever since. Despite being the main force in the chase behind in the peloton, there was little that could be done against the storming front group which included several riders of the other main teams.

"We chased, but the effort wasn't enough. Today's regret we will turn into a desire for revenge," he concluded.
