Wolfgang Rieke, a German truck driver who is accused of killing the much-missed Davide Rebellin, has reached a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors in Italy.
According to Cycling News, Rieke, who it's alleged drove into Rebellin with his truck, is now "likely to to serve a three-year, 11-month sentence, with a request to serve the sentence under house arrest rather than in prison."
“It was a mistake, a tragedy. I’m very, very, very sorry. I regret it and will accept my punishment,” said a regretful Reike when making a brief speech during his court hearing in Vincenza, Italy.
Rieke immediately fled the country after hitting Rebellin, failing to report the incident, with eyewitnesses at the scene claiming to have seen Rieke get out of his truck and approach Rebellin's body before quickly driving away.

This is not what Davide Rebellin's family would have hope for :-(

I am all for being contrite, but approaching David and then leaving the scene? Leaving the country? I would think the guy deserves more than 4 years at home watching Netflix.

Those are the reasons he’s being punished, nobody goes to prison for traffic accidents in most countries, unless under the influence or premeditated.
