German truck driver accused of killing Davide Rebellin reaches plea bargain with prosecutors

Wolfgang Rieke, a German truck driver who is accused of killing the much-missed Davide Rebellin, has reached a plea bargain agreement with prosecutors in Italy.

According to Cycling News, Rieke, who it's alleged drove into Rebellin with his truck, is now "likely to to serve a three-year, 11-month sentence, with a request to serve the sentence under house arrest rather than in prison."

“It was a mistake, a tragedy. I’m very, very, very sorry. I regret it and will accept my punishment,” said a regretful Reike when making a brief speech during his court hearing in Vincenza, Italy.

Rieke immediately fled the country after hitting Rebellin, failing to report the incident, with eyewitnesses at the scene claiming to have seen Rieke get out of his truck and approach Rebellin's body before quickly driving away.
