🇫🇷 #Dauphiné We’re on our way to France for @dauphine and look forward to an exciting week of racing 👊🏼 Here’s our line-up: 👉🏼 Sam Bennett 👉🏼 Emanuel Buchmann 👉🏼 Patrick Gamper 👉🏼 Jai Hindley 👉🏼 Ryan Mullen 👉🏼 Nils Politt 👉🏼 Danny van Poppel
Set to take part in the Tour de France for the first time in his career, Jai Hindley is predicting a fiercely intense battle for the general classification riders right from the get-go.
“From day one it will be a battle for the standings," predicts the 27-year-old Australian who will lead the BORA - hansgrohe team at the race tells SBS Sport. "It is better to be in top shape at the start than to get in shape during the race. That's hard to plan, but okay. You always have to be there from day 1.”
A former Giro d'Italia winner, Hindley has some Grand Tour pedigree. Although the likes of Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard will start the race as the favourites for the win, rule out Hindley at your peril. As he says himself, the course is well suited to a climber like him.
“The course suits me well. And there is only one time trial in it. When I saw the track, I was super excited," says Hindley. “The stages in the Basque Country are very tough. The first day alone is like a one-day race. This is followed by the high mountains already in the fifth stage and sixth stage. The Tourmalet and the Aspin in the first week, that is serious work.”
