Stage 9 of the
Tour de France will be the return of the Tour de France to the Puy de Dôme, a climb which has not been featured in the race for decades and is not open to the public. This Friday however ASO pulled some strings and organized an event where some of the riders could go and explore the ascent.
This will be an important day for the overall classification and some of the riders who are racing the Criterium du Dauphiné decided to make the short trip to the Massic Central's perhaps most iconic ascent.
Jonas Vingegaard and
Egan Bernal were among them. The climb is 13.9 kilometers at 7.7%, but the final 5 kilometers average over 11% in a narrow road, where differences are expected on the day.
