Filippo Ganna had set out to ride the
Hour Record in 2022, but had his first attempt postponed in August as he lacked the ideal preparation for the race. He will have to beat the time of one of the team's performance managers
Dan Bigham who set a time of 55.548 kilometers.
Bigham took the opportunity back in August to fill in for Ganna as the team's plans changed. Following a Tour de France where he failed to be on the podium of both time-trials, Ganna found himself in a less than ideal position. With the World Championships also near, it would have been hard to keep his best form throughout months, but now a new date has been confirmed as Ganna will hit the boards on the 8th of October.
Ganna is an experienced rider on the track and a two-time consecutive World Time-Trial champion on the road. This Sunday he will attempt to take his third title, and three weeks after he will have his final main goal of the season. “I’m looking forward to the challenge, even though it’s going to be an hour of pure suffering," Ganna said in a press release.
"It will be interesting to see how my body holds up, and just how far I can go - it’s a chance to really test your physical and mental limits. To undertake a prestigious event like this is an important step in my career," he concluded.
