Ganna is following up on the effort of
INEOS Grenadiers performance engineer Dan Bigham who, in August - on the spot where Ganna initally planned to ride the Hour Record - set a new best distance of 55.548 kilometers in an hour. The Italian has recently ridden an average speed of over 56Km/h for 35 minutes in a testing effort, and is riding incredibly detail-oriented gear towards his effort, which includes a 3D-printed bike frame.
"I have a super team behind me. They make sure that I don't have to do other things every day. I just have to push the pedals, they take care of the rest," he said. The bike is said to weight around 9 kilograms, quite above the minimum limit, but all in the name of aerodynamics which are the real priority.
"It's a heavier bike than usual. In the beginning you don't feel very fast, but after 5 minutes you fly over the track. We put a lot of love into this bike, but that love weighs heavily," he said, jokingly.
"If I have to be realistic, I just want to ride a meter further than Dan Bigham. But the dream is to set a real blast. The record of records," Ganna concluded. His effort will take place at 20:00CET tomorrow in Grenchen, Switzerland, hours after INEOS Grenadiers tackle Il Lombardia not too far away.
