"Everything is going in the right direction" for Julian Alaphilippe as he recovers from Liège crash injuries

Julian Alaphilippe has returned to social media to give an update on how his recovery is evolving. The Frenchman crashed at Liège-Bastogne-Liège where he was one of the main favourites, breaking two ribs, a scapula and suffering a pneumothorax.

On his social media, he's said: “Hello everyone, after a few important days, I'm happy to bring you some news. My recovery is going well and I also have less pain. I can also breathe better, everything is going in the right direction. I hope this heavy fall will soon be a bad memory.”

“I wanted to thank you for your many messages of support that have touched me very much in the past 10 days," he added. This comes as good news for the Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team, who are hopeful that the World champion can recover on time for the Tour de France with form to be competitive. However, whether he will be able to or not is not yet decided: "The next visits to the doctor will determine the rest of my season.”

Not everything about the crash was bad though, for the Frenchman, as he was able to take a pause from the very busy life of a professional rider, ahead of the second half of the season. “I'm already motivated for what's to come and to be able to race back for you. Right now I'm enjoying my family as much as possible," he concluded.
