Devastating testimony of the only witness to the tragic death of Andre Drege: "I would give anything to be able to change what happened"

Slovenian cyclist Jaka Primozic was the only witness to the unfortunate death of Andre Drege in the Tour of Austria. The Norwegian rider was in the breakaway when he crashed on the descent of the Grossglocker and suffered fatal injuries.

The only witness to the fatal accident was the aforementioned 25-year-old Primozic, who, totally devastated, posted on his Instagram account a message regretting what happened and assuring that there is no one to blame:

"As the only witness I cannot explain how devastated I am. This should never have happened. No one was to blame for the fall. I would give anything to be able to change something so it wouldn't have happened. My thoughts are with his team and his family. Rest in peace, may cycling be good to you in heaven. I can't say I knew you, but we shared the same passion and I will carry you in my heart forever."

Yesterday was a very hard day for world cycling and especially for the Norwegian as demonstrated by the statements of Alexander Kristoff when he arrived at the finish line in the Tour de France. Drege was a more than promising cyclist who this year had achieved 7 partial victories that seemed to have opened the doors to the WorldTour in the Jayco AlUla team. Hours after the incident the cycling world, as it was in his day with Gino Mader, is completely shocked by the news.
