Stage 4 of the 2024 Tour of Austria has been tragically overshadowed on Saturday afternoon. Whilst Filippo Ganna managed to triumph on the queen stage in style, a horrific situation was developing down the road.
Although complete details about the incident and the situation are now fully known, it is being reported that Team Coop - Repsol's 25-year-old Norwegian rider, Andre Drege has heartbreakingly been killed in a crash on one of the descents.
Somewhat understandably due to the circumstances, all podium celebrations have been cancelled in Austria and although stage 4 was the penultimate stage of this year's edition of the race, it's not yet clear if the final stage will be raced on Sunday.
According to reports, the well thought of Drege, was even supposed to be on the move to the World Tour for next season. This is still a developing story and as soon as we have more information we will keep you up to date.
CyclingUpToDate would like to extend it's condolences to friends and family of Andre.
