UAE Team Emirates has in the men's peloton become one of, if not the most heavily financed team in the peloton. In the women's peloton, UAE Team ADQ start to make moves in the market, and reportedly have made a millionaire offer to Demi Vollering.
“I heard the story from different sides in recent months. My ears were popping. A million! The most recent amounts circulated for female cyclists at the absolute top in the world were about half of that," Marijn de Vries said in a column for NRC. "Perhaps what surprised me most was that no one really seemed surprised. And honestly, it doesn't surprise me either.”
Bigger budgets have been circulating in the cycling world, and this trend is only set to continue as big sponsors such as Red Bull stepped in the men's side. Bigger moves are made in the women's market, where currently Team SD Worx-Protime rule the peloton with an iron fist. However their main star, Demi Vollering, who has won the Tour de France Femmes this past summer, may leave the team for an opportunity that is unheard of in women's cycling.
This is not a confirmed report, but the Dutch analuyst reports that inside sources hinted at this attempt to start negotiations. “I simply cannot say anything about the salaries of riders, but I don't believe everything that is said."
