Daniel Navarro had already announced that, almost certainly, the last Vuelta a España would be his last race, and yesterday the Asturian climber from Burgos-BH confirmed the news: he is hanging up his bicycle at the age of 40 and after 19 seasons in the professional peloton.
He confirmed it through a message on his social networks: "After 19 years in the elite and 30 competing, I am ending my sporting career at a professional level. These years have given me the ability to meet people and places that I will always carry with me, there have been super good moments and some not so good but without a doubt thanks to everyone who has been there everything has always been easier."
A born climber, throughout his long professional career the Asturian defended the colors of Liberty Seguros, Astana, Saxo Bank, Cofidis, Katusha, Israel and Burgos-BH, adding four victories, the last of them in Cabárceno in the Vuelta a España 2014 where he also finished 10th overall. A year earlier he was 9th at the Tour de France, his best GC result in the 23 grand tours he competed in.
