BORA - hansgrohe's Daniel Martínez is riding perhaps the best grand tour of his career with this Giro d'Italia where he sits first among the humans after nearly two weeks of racing. However his position in the GC will be under heavy fire in Saturday's second time trial where no weakness can be hidden.
Daniel managed to overcome stage 13 successfully: "There is no easy day in the Giro, a lot of stress today. At one point they tried to make a split but well, I think the wind died down too much afterwards, so in the end we relaxed a little and in the last 10 kilometers it was exactly how you normally reach the sprint," explained Martínez for RCN.
He could have been in the front split of the echelons: "There you have to have first of all: good positioning, good equipment and legs, because let's say that if one is left behind in the group he will suffer too much. "Then you also always has to be up there, like in the washing machine," said the Colombian climber.
Regarding whether he is prepared for the time trial, he responded: "Of course, you don't see that I'm already warming up today," he laughs and continues: "Lies. Yes, tomorrow's time trial that is going to be completely flat, so well, let's see. 31.2 kilometers more or less that are quite demanding, it is more technical than last time. So we will see how it plays out," concluded Martínez.
