A move that had been rumoured over the past few weeks, the negotiations between
Daniel Martínez had been ongoing already for a while and this morning
BORA - hansgrohe have announced the arrival of the Colombian straight from
INEOS Grenadiers.
"I'm really happy and excited to join BORA - hansgrohe. It's a big team and one of the best in the world with a nice group of riders. Together we'll take the next step," the Colombian said in a press release. After Tao Geoghegan Hart and Pavel Sivakov, the British team loses yet another of it's climbers. Martínez has been struggling this season and doesn't have much to show for - besides the GC win at the Volta ao Algarve which is the exception - however in past years he's proven a very valuable climber.
In 2022 he won Itzulia Basque Country and up until the Tour de France he had been one of the most consistent and successful climbers of the year. Not one who has so far shown a great level at the Grand Tours yet however, but for a week-long stage-race the 27-year old is a quality asset for the German team, as well as providing more firepower to support Jai Hindley in the upcoming Grand Tours.
"Dani has shown huge potential as a GC rider. His capacity to climb is enormous. We trust and will build on that, even if his current season is rather mixed," Rolf Aldag said. "What I appreciate about Dani is that he is a complete team player. In moments when things weren't going so well as a leader, he immediately put himself at the service of the team. This ability to switch and change roles is very valuable."
