What was an open secret is now official: Mikel Landa will ride for Soudal Quick-Step for the 2024 and 2025 seasons. The rider from Alava leaves Bahrain Victorious to embark on a new project in which he is supposed to be Remco Evenepoel's luxury teammate in the mountains.
In his long career, the 33-year-old has ridden for Orbea, Euskaltel, Team Sky (now INEOS), Movistar Team, Bahrain and now Quick-Step. The Basque climbers has set himself up to be one of the world's best since 2015, having achieved plenty high quality results in the Grand Tours and stage-races despite never being a versatile rider such as is the case now with the likes of Evenepoel, Roglic, Vingegaard, Pogacar, etc... He has finished in the podium of the Giro in 2022 signaling his return to his best level.
This spring he has confirmed that, finishing on the podium of several high-level races including Flèche Wallone where he was not expected to perform with the best. The Tour de France however has not gone according to plan although the route was perfectly suited to him, but he's currently training ahead of the Vuelta a Espana.
Over the past few months, as Soudal-Quick-Step looks to reinforce itself as best as possible in the mountains to support Evenepoel, Landa was a big goal for the Belgian team. Both had confirmed negotiations and intentions on making the deal happen, and now it has been put on paper, for two years. The 33-year old finds another new chapter in his career in which he will be supporting one of the brightest talents in the peloton.
