Daan Hoole was one of the victims of a fall that took place with less than four kilometres to go in the second stage of Giro d'Italia 2023. The tall Dutchmen hit the deck after collision with barriers while trying to evade Martijn Tusveld who went down just in front of him.
"Further investigations at the hotel by our team doctor revealed a severe contusion on the right calf of Daan Hoole. He will undergo the necessary treatment today with the hope that he will be able to avoid any pain tomorrow and ride without problems," states press release of Trek-Segafredo.
Hoole could prove vital in the support for Mads Pedersen throughout the Giro, as he is part of the Dane's leadout. Pedersen was left out of contention in the opening sprint of the race, which sees his task of fighting for the points classification slightly more complicated.
