Cofidis sprinter Davide Cimolai "would like to do Giro" again this season

Cofidis rider Davide Cimolai is all set to begin his season at Tour Down Under. The Italian rider looks back on his past season's performance and reveals goals for 2023.

"It's been a difficult year, but it's not the fault of the team or anyone in particular. When I was in good shape after Tirreno-Adriatico and before the Giro, I first had big bronchitis that put me out of the race for a fortnight and then the Covid,” Cimolai told Bici pro.

There were some important races on his calendar that he missed, and he could have won them. “I couldn't go to major races like Milan-San Remo. It also complicated the preparation of the Giro. So it was a difficult year from a physical and mental point of view", he explains.

Once he had recovered and was able to ride again, his team needed him to earn points to avoid relegation. "It was also a special year because we were fighting for the World Tour. That's why we didn't always race to win, but to get points.”

The Italian hopes to ride in the Giro d'Italia again this season."First of all, I have to feel good, to be in the best possible condition. Then I think I am in a team that can give me opportunities. We still have to talk about the programme, but if you ask me what I would like to do, it would be the Giro,” concluded Cimolai.
