Caleb Ewan takes sprint win on opening stage of 2024 Tour of Oman

Team Jayco AlUla's Caleb Ewan has opened the 2024 Tour of Oman was a blistering bunch sprint victory.

Five men made up the breakaway of the day, including two local Omani riders. With the likes of Team Jayco AlUla and Team DSM-Firmenich PostNL controlling the peloton however, the gap was never allowed to stretch much further than three minutes.

With 30km to go, just three of the day's break remained out front, around a minute clear of a peloton that seemed to be just waiting for the right moment to complete the catch.

It took a little while but with 11km to go, the catch was finally completed and a full peloton raced towards the expected bunch sprint finale.

Not a totally flat sprint, there was a slow drag to the finish line in the final kilometre, but that didn't stop Caleb Ewan however, who powered to the win ahead of Bryan Coquard and Alexander Kristoff.
