They were caught with 26 kilometers to go as some attacks came from the peloton, Sebastian Reichenbach and Remy Rochas in the longest climb of the day but the move was short lived as a raging peloton never slowed down until the finish line.
There was a big fight for positioning to the base of the final climb in Rousson (1.8Km at 6.3% average gradient, with the toughest ramps towards the end) and there Arkéa Samsic made the effort to make it as tough as possible, but some sprinters resisted the attack of Connor Swift inside the final 500 meters.
Few riders still had the energy to accelarate but Mads Pedersen took up the sprint, and alongside
Bryan Coquard they went side by side almost to the line where the Frenchman just barely managed to take the win, before collapsing after the line. Pedersen finished a strong second and kept the yellow jersey,
Tobias Johannessen and Mathieu Burgaudeau also managed to finish alongside them, with small gaps forming behind.
