UAE Team Emirates' Brandon McNulty has emerged victorious from a shortened stage 4 at the 2024 Volta a Comunitat Valenciana. The peloton will now roll into the original finish line, where no celebrations will be held.
Sadly, due to the tragic passing of a spectator near the finish line, the end of the stage was brought forward by around 15km to the top of the Alto del Miserat. This did boost the stage-winning hopes of the breakaway, seven of whom, including Sam Oomen and Pelayo Sanchez, held a lead of just over a minute as the bottom of the climb neared.
As the climbing began however, the leaders were quickly swallowed up and around 20 riders took on the final 4km of ascent. That number soon dwindled further as the big name riders made their move. A very strong trio of Aleksandr Vlasov, Santiago Buitrago and Brandon McNulty pulling clear. All three tried their luck but it was McNulty who proved strongest to take the win.
