Del Toro led the race following his triumph on stage 2, but lost it at Old Willunga Hill as Stephen Williams gathered enough bonifications to take the race lead into his hands. On the last day however the
UAE Team Emirates rider felt better, and with 1.6 kilometers to go launched a powerful attack the caused the decisive split of the day.
In the final sprint he didn't have the legs to take the win, being beaten by Williams and Jhonatan Narváez who also finished ahead of him in GC. “It is important to keep learning and give everything. You never know what to expect in cycling. But I do know that I'll give it my all, and maybe even more, as soon as I get on the bike," Del Toro concludes. "I did that again in this stage, but it turned out not to be enough for the victory. Better luck next time."
