The last stage of the Tour Down Under with the finish on the mythical climb of Mount Lofty did not disappoint and ended with victory for the wearer of the ochre jersey, Stephen Williams, from Israel - Premier Tech.
The British rider, who started the day with the same time in the classification as Oscar Onley, reached the last meters with Johnatan Narvaez, Isaac del Toro and Bart Lemmen. He was the first to attack in the final sprint and came in emta ahead of the Ecuadorian of INEOS Grenadiers and the Mexican of UAE Team Emirates, who also join him on the final podium of the Tour Down Under.
Julian Alaphilippe, who tried again, did not have the strength at the end as in the previous day and ended up arriving 10 seconds behind in a group in which also entered men like Bauke Mollema, Valentin Paret-Peintre or Movistar Team Gonzalo Serrano and Ruben Guerreiro. Oscar Onley and Simon Yates, who could not give Team Jayco-AlUla the victory they were hoping for in their home race, also came in at 10 seconds.
From this Tour Down Under, we are left with a 27-year-old Williams who, after winning the Arctic Race of Norway last year, manages to win the most important race of his life. The other big name of this one is Isaac del Toro who has surprised everyone in his first WorldTour race winning a stage and finishing on the podium.
