Arkéa - B&B Hotels' David Dekker abandons 2024 Giro d'Italia partway through stage 17

There isn't much left for the sprinters at the 2024 Giro d'Italia. Aside from the processional final stage in Rome, it's pretty much all climbs for the fast men to labour their way over until Rome. As such, a number of sprinters have abandoned in the last few days, the latest being David Dekker.

The Arkéa - B&B Hotels' sprinter, who finished second on a stage of the 2023 Giro d'Italia hasn't been able to similarly challenge for stage wins this time around. Best result for the 26-year-old Dutchman in the opening 16 stages at this Grand Tour was an 11th placed finish on stage 11, when victory went to the Maglia Ciclamino, Jonathan Milan.

Whether or not Dekker has been struggling with illness or injury, or if he was just pulled due to the lack of opportunities in the upcoming days, is not yet known.
