Perhaps the expectations for
Filippo Baroncini were that he would have become a leader of his own after becoming under-23 world champion in 2021, but the 24-year-old Italian seems to have found his place as a domestique in the stacked
UAE Team Emirates - XRG.
Over his first two seasons with the Emirati team, Baroncini became a key part of the Classics team centered around world champion Tadej Pogacar. And while there weren't all that many opportunities for the Italian to go after his own result, he has delivered when allowed to; last year by winning the SUPER 8 Classic, this year when he brought home the general classification of Baloise Belgium Tour.
According to
Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian all-rounder seems happy in his new home and since those feelings were mutual, Baroncini signed a two-year extension despite serious interest from several other teams.
