Alpecin-Deceuninck have had much success over recent years through the current road race world champion
Mathieu van der Poel. In honour of the Dutchman's legendary grandfather, the late great
Raymond Poulidor, the team have now released another jersey inspired by the former darling of French cycling.
"On this second
Tour de France rest day, Alpecin-Deceuninck and Mathieu van der Poel are proud to launch our new #MerciPoupou shirt and 2024 charity campaign!" the team writes on their official social media channels this Monday. "Founded in 2021 and already raised over €300,000, we are here again with a range of new actions as fundraisers for various organisations providing opportunities for children and young adults to engage in sports, recover from injuries and accidents, and to support good causes."
This isn't the first time that Alpecin-Deceuninck have honoured Poulidor either. In both 2021 and 2023, the team wore similar jerseys. As mentioned, a select number of these editions will be auctioned off for charity although if you want one, you'll have to move quickly, as there are a limited number of signed, special edition jerseys available.
"We are producing 50 (referring to the number of Tour de France participations of Raymond Poulidor, both as rider and as Tour de France ambassador) unique jerseys, numbered from 1 to 50 and authentically signed by Mathieu van der Poel. Jersey number 1 is reserved for Mathieu van der Poel. Jersey number 2, along with a few others (see list), will be auctioned via MatchWornShirt. Ten jerseys (41 to 50) will be donated to various organisations and charities to auction themselves, raising funds for their causes," explains the team.
