Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl are looking to put on a strong performance at tomorrow's Flèche Wallone after an unsuccessful cobbles classics campaign where illnesses and crashes took the team out of contention for several races. With the Ardennes under way this week, there are two big opportunities to make up for lost results.
On the helm of the team will be two riders who are constantly on the spotlight. After a crash at Brabantse Pijl caused by a team car, the worst was feared. However, Julian Alaphilippe didn't seem to sustain any meaningful injury and is thought to be the leader of the team, with the right skillset and experience, having won the race on 2018, 2019 and 2021. Alongside him will be a strong team of climbers, and Remco Evenepoel who will have an unclear role, however can be a very dangerous piece for the Belgian team.
Team DS Klaas Lodewyck has talked about the team's plan for tomorrow's race, as they begin with the ambition of repeating the World champion's success: “We go with a strong team to Flèche Wallonne, a race we know and like. Having Julian – who has shown a good condition in the Basque Country at the beginning of the month – as our leader gives us a lot of confidence that we can be in the mix again and fight for a good result, just like at the previous editions".
