Adam Yates had far from an ideal start to the season. He makes his return to competition however this next week as he headlines the newly-created Giro di Abbruzo, where he will be a big favourite for the overall classification and will - like the Giro d'Italia - climb Prati di Tivo in an important test for his form.
Yates won the Tour of Oman, but at the UAE Tour he crashed on stage 3 right before the ascent to Jebel Jais. He was a big contender for GC victory there but was forced to abandon with a concussion suffered. This meant he had to also abandon his plans of racing Tirreno-Adriatico, causing big damage into his spring aspirations. Now, Yates returns in the Italian race, before later eyeing the Tour de France where he finished on the podium last year.
