It looks like Mark Cavendish will compete in the Tour of Turkey (October 8-15) this fall. The organization announced on Twitter today that the 38-year-old Manxman will appear at the start of the eight-day stage race. Cavendish himself and his team Astana Qazaqstan have not yet released anything about his program.
Cavendish has not competed since the Tour de France, where he crashed in the eighth stage and had to give up. The Manx Missile was chasing his 35th stage victory in the Tour, which would make him the sole record holder for the number of stage wins.
Cavendish also shares the stage wins record with André Greipel in Tour of Turkey. Both recorded eleven stage victories in this race.
In May, Cavendish announced his retirement as a professional cyclist. He then announced that he would hang his bicycle on the hook after 2023. However, Alexandre Vinokourov, the team manager of Astana Qazaqstan, said after Cavendish's retirement from the Tour that he would like to see the Briton continue for another year. Tuttobiciweb later reported that Cavendish would be close to an extension with Astana Qazaqstan.
