Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl suffered from bad luck at
Paris-Roubaix, as Kasper Asgreen, Yves Lampaert and
Florian Sénéchal all hit the deck at some point during the race, taking them out of contention for a possible win in the Velodrome.
Sénéchal's partner has revealed in Instagram how much emotions has gone through his and herself after the incidents of this past Sunday, strongly affirming that "yesterday [Sunday] for you [fans] was a day of celebration, for me it was the most important day of the year, the one for which Florian does not have enough to eat for a good part of the season, and for which we we only have too rare family moments." This being a justification why it was such an important target for the Frenchman, a local rider who every year targets Roubaix as a main objective of the spring.
There is video footage of his crash at Mons-en-Pévèle which took him out of contention of the race, in which it is said that "you made him fall head first", in which Patrick Lefevere said that Sénéchal "was a bit unsure where he was for a few seconds".
But besides the accident, the Quick-Step rider was later hit by a cup of urine from a fan later in the race. Sénéchal told La Voix du Nord that “I thought it was beer, but soon it started to smell like urine. I was completely demoralized. I don't understand why people do such things. I am therefore furious with the spectator who threw the cup.”
Despite this, he went on to finish the race in 13th place, but it was certainly not the finale to the classics campaign that he had hoped for.
