Men's Team Pursuit finals: For 🌈: Italy 🇮🇹 vs Denmark 🇩🇰 For 🥉: New Zealand 🇳🇿 vs Australia 🇦🇺 #GlasgowScotland2023
The Italian men's team pursuit squad have backed up their brilliant performance at the Tokyo Olympics, by reaching the final of the event at the Glasgow World Championships where they will face off against Denmark.
“Even at the Olympics they were the favourites, then it went as we know," says INEOS Grenadiers star, Filippo Ganna who is combining both road and track at this World Championships. "Win or lose, we have shown that we are still here, with our legs and head. Marco is doing an incredible job and I understand the difficulty of preparing such an event with all the commitments."
Alongside Ganna in the four-man Italian lineup is fellow road star, Jonathan Milan, the winner of the points classification at the 2023 Giro d'Italia. “We knew that the New Zealanders weren't easy to beat. We gave everything and tomorrow we will give the same," previews Milan. "It's early to talk about tables, but it will be a good battle tomorrow. The Danes are fine, but we too have shown that we have the condition."
The battle in the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow looks set to be a thriller. Italy have been consistently improving throughout the championships but whether or not they will be able to overcome the Danish challenge remains to be seen.
