Jan Ullrich's 1998 Tour de France Pinarello goes into charitative auction during this year's Tour

Starting this Monday, cycling fans can now buy one of the great jewels of cycling: the original bicycle with which Jan Ullrich managed to finish second in the 1998 Tour de France. An auction that began this Tuesday on the bicycle platform of second-hand Buycycle and which will last throughout the Tour de France until the finish in Nice.

The Pinarello bicycle that Ullrich used in the Telekom ranks in 1998 has handlebar tape, Continental tires, a Campagnolo Record Titanium groupset and the Sigma cycle computer that Ullrich used during races and training. "I hope it has a little more than 40,000 kilometers," said Ullrich. The auction opens with a starting price of 99,999 euros.

Proceeds from the auction will be donated to programs for the development of young cyclists, as Ullrich himself stated. "It is very important to me to support the next generation of cyclists. With this auction I want to give young talents the opportunity to make their dreams come true and further promote the sport that I love so much."
