At the start of this week, devastating floods hit the south of Spain - location where many (pro) cyclists prefer to stay in the off-season as the area usually provides with kind weather conditions even during elsewhere cold winter months. Among them the popular Puck Moonen along with her boyfriend.
The pair, who were staying near Valencia at the time of the events, witnessed the destruction first-hand: "It's been a wild week coming home from Valencia and I didn't know what to post or write to be honest," she begins her account in an Instagram story. "I still can't describe my heartbreak for what has happened there."
"We were staying up in the mountains for a few nice days in between work," says Moonen on behalf of herself and her boyfriend. "We realize how extremely lucky we were. The worst of the rain went around us, but we were quite nervous about how dangerous it could potentially get especially being on the side of a mountain."
"The severity of the situation became clear throughout the night and the next morning seeing the devastating damage south of Valencia," she continues. "Made it back home and very happy to be staying home for a while. Just being safe and healthy will never ever go underappreciated. Hope everyone out there stays safe," she concludes, addressing the people in the Valencia area.
