The turmoil at
INEOS Grenadiers shows no signs of slowing
down as another high-profile departure shakes the team. According to journalist
Daniel Benson, Steve Cummings is the
latest to leave the British outfit amidst
a string of staff exits in recent months.
The departure of the 43-year-old Cummings had been rumoured
for a while now, and he has not appeared with the team since the Criterium du
Dauphiné during the summer. Notably, he did not accompany the team to the Tour
de France, which fuelled speculation that his tenure at INEOS was coming to an
end.
The implications for
Tom Pidcock remain uncertain. The
Leeds-born rider has been linked with potential moves to several teams,
including Visma | Lease a Bike, Q36.5 Pro Cycling, and Tudor Pro Cycling.
However, whether Cummings' departure could influence Pidcock to remain with
INEOS is still unknown, as it has been largely reported that there was tension
between Pidcock and Cummings.
This upheaval comes on the heels of a difficult season for
INEOS Grenadiers, one of their most challenging in recent years. The team slid
to seventh in the UCI World rankings, reflecting a year of underperformance and
internal strife.
As the team looks to regroup, the focus will be on stabilising
their roster and resolving internal dynamics that could affect their future
success. One thing is for sure, they have an incredibly long way to go to get
back to their dominance of the 2010s.
