The Nové Mesto World Cup comes in a point in time where almost every year, a few of the World Tour pros who also compete in Mountain Biking also make the switch and test their legs. This was the case with Mathieu van der Poel who crashed out of the race, but he was not the only one who suffered from bad luck, as
Alan Hatherly also faced the same situation.
Whilst van der Poel fell twice at the start of the race and later pulled out to determine the injuries that are currently putting his Tour de France presence at risk, Hatherly somehow finished ninth at the end of the race and avoided fractures as you can see in the video below.
The reigning XCO World Champion, as seen in a spectator-recorded video, hit a pedal on the ground before a rock garden and fell at speed in a rather unlucky spot.
