Just days after Nairo Quintana had results showing a presence of tramadol during the Tour de France, another high profile rider has tested positive, this time on the mountain biking bubble where Mathias Flückiger is now under pressure.
Flückiger was the World Cup winner in the XCO discipline last year, aswell as being a three-time Swiss national champion, former under-23 World champion and winner of several other high-level races. A test taken at this year's national championships - where he took the title - came back positive for the substance Zeranol, an anabolic steroid that promotes body growth.

The news come as a surprise, and in the day the European championships will be taking place. Flückiger will miss the race, and likely the World championships next week aswell which will take place in Les Gets.
It is likely that he will now be requesting a B sample and preparing his defense, with big consequences set to be put in place if he is not able to prove his innocence.
