Peter Sagan set to return to training just 15 days after undergoing second heart surgery

After suffering cardiac arrhythmias during a mountain bike race, where his heartbeat went above 200 beats per minute, Peter Sagan underwent an ablation procedure to correct the problem.

However, the device that was fitted after the surgery detected another problem with the Slovakian’s heart, as he suffered a supraventricular tachycardia, which forced him to have another surgery, which he is now recovering from.

He is set to return to training just 15 days after having his second surgery, but it is still unconfirmed when he will make his full return to competition, as he has not finished a race since the recording device was fitted to his heart.

If the problems continue, then it could jeopardise his participation at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, as he is yet to qualify for the mountain bike event and is already facing an uphill battle to get the points required to secure a spot on the start list.
