The cup of patience overflew for
Thijs Zonneveld at Gravel World Series in Aachen. Many obstacles such as parked and moving cars, people with strollers and tractors on the course created dangerous situations. Zonneveld did not have many kind words towards the organization on social media afterwards.
"Cars and tractors driving and parked everywhere on the trail, with little or no signposting, walkers everywhere with and without a stroller. Completely ridiculous to race on this. Tried unsuccessfully to shut it down, dropped out of the first group after the first of three laps. No desire to risk my body and life - and that of others. Certainly not with a view to the coming weeks," said the Dutchman on X.
