Winner of two regularity classifications, Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, ends her cyclocross season earlier due to back problems: "I think my back is very happy with that"

Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado has won the Superprestige ranking too. The Alpecin-Deceunink rider was already certain winner before the start of today's Middelkerke Superprestige, where she finished third. This means that Alvarado completed the double after she had also secured the World Cup earlier this winner.

"I am happy that I managed to keep my leader's jersey today and become the overall winner," said Alvarado after the race. Her hopes of winning were soon over after an early crash. "I slipped," Alvarado looks back on her slide. "I was even surprised, it came out of the blue."

"I picked myself up, but Lucinda rode so hard on the first lap. So that didn't work. My back was bothering me the whole race, so I tried to go at my own pace. In the end, this just resulted in a third place, because Marion also came quite close."

Will she continue racing if her back keeps bothering her? "No, riding around like that is not fun. It is not fun mentally or physically. We decided together with the team that this is my last race. This is where it ends for me. I think my back is very happy with that. I won two rankings, so it was a great season. Without the back problems I would have continued to the end, but with my back that would not have been possible."
